FAQs

BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IRELAND?

April thru September are generally the months to visit with June, July & August being the high season. One consideration for you is to enquire if all attractions on your list are open during the time you wish to visit.

Ireland has no major extremes of climate but it can be changeable at times –  Our Summers can be very pleasant.

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK A DAY TOUR WITH YOU ?

To benefit everybody, we would recommend advance booking of maybe 4-6 months, definitely should be arranged as soon as you have your flights/accommodation booked.

WILL I BE PART OF A BIGGER GROUP TOUR ?

No. All our Tours are specific to you and your group only.

WHAT IS THE COST OF YOUR DAY TOURS AND WHAT’S INCLUDED ?

As all our tours are individually designed, prices can vary. Let us know your outline requirements and we can give you an approximate cost. Once we have agreed an itinerary, your accommodation position, airport transfers etc, we will give you an actual cost and will confirm exactly what’s included.

Meals are not included. Breakfast will normally be served at your accommodation and Daily Lunches & Evening Dinner are your own responsibility.

HOW MUCH FLEXIBILITY IS THERE IN MY FINAL ITINERARY ?

Flexibility is our middle name and your Daily Tour Schedule can be changed by agreement as we go. However, please bear in mind that entrance fees to some attractions may have been pre-booked.

ARE ENTRANCE FEES TO ATTRACTIONS ETC INCLUDED ?

That is entirely up to you – we can give you a price including or excluding all entrance fees.  Opting for the All-In Price including Entrance Fees is generally the best way to go as I can usually negotiate a better deal for you. Some of these may need to be pre-booked.

MAKING A BOOKING ?

Book Flights into Shannon International Airport(If possible) – Book your accommodation with us here in Clareville House B & B and/or  other providers and then we can start planning your itinerary for your Day Tours.

Let us have details of your requirements by completing our “ Enquiries Form” on the website and we’ll take it from there. We will send on a “Fact Sheet” for you to complete with all relevant details.

In due course, we will agree all details and will then confirm same to you with our price & payment details.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE IN IRELAND ?

If possible and if agreed in advance, Derek  can meet you at your arrival airport (Preferably Shannon, otherwise Cork or Dublin) and transfer you to Clareville House or your alternative accommodation.

If you have booked a full or partial Tour, Derek will then be with you for those Tour Days and at the end, you can arrange for him to transfer you to your departure airport or your next accommodation.  If you have any spare days in between, you may use these as you see fit.

HOW MUCH LUGGAGE CAN WE BRING ?

It’s always best to keep luggage to a minimum. We can advise on this as your tour is being finalised.

CLOTHES TO PACK?

The Weather here is always a popular topic of conversation, Summer or Winter – It changes very often and we can sometimes have the four seasons in one day!

Thankfully, we don’t have extremes, so you’d get away with Layers of Casual Clothes, Raincoat, Waterproof/Walking Shoes, Sweaters etc – You can always buy a genuine Wool Sweater if it gets a bit colder than normal!

HOW MANY HOURS IN A DAY TOUR?

Generally we will be “Out & About” for a minimum of 8 hours per day. Sometimes this will run to 10/12 hours and other times it could be slightly less. It all depends on the particular Tour for that day.

Our Guarantee – Time will not upset your enjoyment of the tour!

HOW MANY HOURS DRIVING EACH DAY?

While we endeavour to have a stop every 1 to 2 hours, on occasions it may be necessary to have a drive of up to 2/3 hours, depending on the Day Tour involved.

DO I NEED INSURANCE?

Our price does not cover your travel insurance. We strongly recommend that you purchase comprehensive travel insurance cover for cancellation, medical expenses, personal accident, personal baggage, money and public liability before you travel.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

Please see our Terms & Conditions page for all details on Cancellations and Refunds.

HOW DO I MAKE A PAYMENT?

Deposits or balances due can be paid by PayPal, Bank Transfer or by Credit Card (we accept both Visa and Mastercard).

TIPPING/ GRATUITIES - GUIDELINES?

As such there’s no set of guidelines for tipping in Ireland – People will generally “Tip” based on the quality of the service received.

For Meals, Drinks Service, Hotel Porter etc, tipping of 10% to 15% would be more than acceptable.

Tips/Gratuities for Driver Guides are not compulsory but always very much appreciated. It is totally discretional and is your way of appreciating his/her efforts in the enjoyment of your tour.

As a general rule of thumb, they normally start at about 15% -20% of the total cost but can be whatever you decide is appropriate in the circumstances.
